3 Things to Include in Your Regimen If You Have Fine/Thin Natural Hair

Fine Hair PicIf your natural hair is fine/thin – it means that the diameter of your hair strand is smaller compared to those with thicker hair strands. But that is perfectly fine (no pun intended). You just need to know how to work with what you have.

You know what? If you are constantly obsessing and lamenting about your hair structure, and you do not take the time to properly care for it, you will never be able to fully appreciate your hair, talk less of take care of it. So, work with what you have been blessed with, and you will see great results in the health of your hair.

Here are 3 things that you definitely want to make sure are included in your hair regimen.

  1. Protein Treatment – our hair is mostly made up of protein. Doing a weekly protein treatment will not only help you balance your moisture/protein level, but it will also help to fortify and strengthen your hair strands. This will definitely reduce breakage, and helps you to retain your length.

Details of what to do and how to do the protein treatment can be found in the below video.

2. Reduce Direct Heat Usage – direct heat from a blow dryer or flat iron. The heat from these appliances can be damaging to your hair, so if at all you have to use them, make sure that you reduce the usage to just once per month.

If you need to stretch your hair, you can band your hair or twist it up to prevent shrinkage.

3. Low Manipulation/Protective Styles – if you need to get a sew-in, make sure that your cornrows are not too tight. When they are too tight, the probability of breakage to your hair will be high.

Additionally, if you are getting braids/twist extensions, be careful with the tightness as well.

Wash your hair weekly and do a style that you are able to wear for the entire week without the need to constantly redo it during the week. The less need for you to be in your hair, the better for the overall health of your fine hair strands.
